Methomyl: Slight market recovery in Brazil

Brazilian methomyl technical grade imports in 2018 until the month of October were 1,737 m tons. Imported products were from China (including 260 m tons from Taiwan). Only one formulated product was imported from Israel, a mixture of methomyl 44% + novaluron 3.5%, in an amount of 752,000 L, according to IMPORT REPORT by AllierBrasil.
Imported prices from January, US$ 9.65/kg (DuPont), compared to last importation in October showed an increase of 38.45%, US$ 13.36/kg. Meanwhile prices of imported methomyl technical in October ranged from US$ 9.37/kg up to US$ 13.36/kg.

After the introduction of Bt GMOs in 2013/14, the use of methomyl has been decreasing in Brazil. Nevertheless during this season farmers increased the applications of the product in order to control Spodoptera, as it was observed lower efficacy by Bt GMOs.
Considering the formulated mixture registration was approved in 2015 and its imports in 2018 were more than 330 m tons of equivalent technical product, and there are more 2 important months until the end of the year, total imports of equivalent technical methomyl could reach more than 2,300 m tons, a considerable amount, but quite far from 4-5 years ago.
