The Minister of Agriculture of Brazil, Mr. Blairo Maggi, met with representatives of agrochemical manufacturers; CHDS do Brasil; AllierBrasil and CCPIT, at Banco do Brasil's headquarters in Shanghai, on Wednesday, November 7.
Of the manufacturer companies that have attended to the meeting, all have been investing for many years in pesticide registration in Brazil. One of the concerns is the time for registration evaluations. It was highlighted the market access of generic companies could result in the immediate offer of cheaper products, that can reduce the costs of agricultural production, increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian commodities, given that some products are up to 1,000% more expensive in Brazil.
The Minister explained the steps of registration process; the responsibilities of each of the involved Agencies - MAPA, ANVISA and IBAMA; and MAPA's efforts to reduce bureaucracy. Mr. Blairo also emphasized the importance of submitting complete registration dossiers, thus avoiding requests for complementary data that shall certainly lead to delays in approvals.
Mr. Blairo asked if the closure of factories in China due to environmental control has resulted in shortages in supply and price increase, which answer has confirmed “price increase in most of the cases”.
This was an initiative of AllierBrasil that has promoting the Brazilian agribusiness since 1999. In addition, in December, there will be a visit to Brazil of representatives of the agrochemical sector to the soybean, corn and sugar-cane farming regions and to local dealers.
