Corteva Agriscience Igor Falak, PhD, has been awarded the prized Canadian Plant Breeding and Genetics Award at the 95th Annual Canadian Seed Trade Association (CSTA).
The award recognizes and honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the Canadian seed industry and trade. It is one of the three awards that are given to those who have contributed to the continued evolution and prosperity of agriculture and the overall economy of the country.
This accolade is the latest in a highly-decorated career for Falak, whose passion and dedication to his work has served as a watermark and inspiration to canola breeders and researchers worldwide.
Dr Falak has shown great initiative for development of unique commercial products with native-sourced traits within the private sector.
His canola breeding efforts have resulted in leading-edge canola hybrids to improve key agronomic characteristics such as resistance to diseases like Sclerotinia stem rot and Clubroot as well as significant pod shatter reduction.
Dr Falak's prolific career history boasts numerous awarded honors that are a testament to his scientific acumen and ability to inspire the industry as a whole.
The CSTA is the national advocate for the Canadian seed industry. It has more than 130 company members and is actively engaged in all aspects of seed research, production, marketing and trade both domestically and internationally.
Annually, the CSTA and its affiliates recognize and celebrate the efforts of research leaders within both the public and private sectors, those who have significantly contributed to the advancement of Canadian plant agriculture.
