Mario Von Zuben, Executive Director of the National Association of Crop Defense (Andef), said, during the Andav Congress, that Brazil’s pesticides bill is an initiative started by local producers with support from the industry and revisions to the law must follow scientific modernization, he added.
“A proposal was presented to revise Brazil’s pesticide legislation, which is important because it is the first modernization effort of a relevant legislation in almost 30 years. Over the last 30 years, science has advanced, and today, the law can be a barrier to adopting scientific developments,” he said.
Von Zuben highlighted the addition of the so-called “risk evaluation” process, which will enable Brazilian producers to access the same technological requirements of their competitors in other countries, without harming the environment and the health of farmers that use their products.
“It is vital to reduce the risk evaluation period. The new proposals will deal with relevant issues without compromising environmental safety and human health, which is not an exaggeration. The adoption of the new law will advance the analysis of new chemicals and the decision-making process in the regulatory process,” Von Zuben said in conclusion.
AgroPages was present at the event to view the developments on display and distribute its newly published magazine -
