With a generalized closing down of factories due to environmental factors in China, the big world alternative for investments in the pesticides industry should be India. This was emphasized at a conference at this year’s Brazil AgrochemShow by Subhra Jyoti Roy, vice-president of Rallis India, a Tata Enterprise company.
According to the executive, the farm business represents 18% of the Indian GDP, which in 2018 should be US$2.9 trillion, which represents an increase of 7.5% over the previous year. He highlighted that his country is already the third largest producer of agricultural pesticides in the world with consolidated revenue of $4.9 billion.
Roy presented several reasons why India offered opportunities for Brazil and the world. One of the main reasons was that the country has a high production capacity and low cost. Nevertheless, Indians have a significant availability of technology and a vast number of human resources.
Besides, according to Roy, the Asian country has a big seasonal domestic demand and the best commercialization price. Another characteristic highlighted was the strong presence of generic products or post-patent that would reach an annual revenue of $4.1 billion until 2020, according to current projections.
Finally, another factor making India the choice for investment opportunities in the sector of pesticides was the fact that the local government is a sponsor of this industry. “Brazilian importers want alternatives to China and Indian companies are arriving in strength to Brazil,” Roy concluded.
Brazil AgrochemShow 2018 was held between August 7 and 8, 2018, at Hotel Maksoud Plaza in the state of São Paulo. The event was organized by AllierBrasil consultancy and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Sub-council of Chemical Industry (CCPIT CHEM). AgroPages attended the show as an exhibitor.
