The International Bremia Evaluation Board (IBEB) has evaluated all Bremia races found in 2016 and 2017. Once again many outbreaks of Bremia were caused by new Bremia races with only local importance. However, two new races are spread in most European counties. IBEB-EU decided to denominate these isolates as the new races Bl:34EU and Bl:35EU.
Thimble.
Bl:34EU is widely spread in Europe and is found in France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Scandinavia.
Bl:35EU is found predominantly in France but has also spread over other countries in Europe.
This race can best be described as a more aggressive variant of BL:33EU, able to break additional resistance sources and spreading in the same area’s as BL:33EU.
Nunhems offers a wide range of lettuce varieties, with broad resistance patterns and most resistant to these new races Bl:34EU and Bl:35EU.
Juniper.
This includes the market leading iceberg portfolio for north Europe, with the new
Liberkin (Nun0190) giving a strong performance all season in medium to heavy soils.
Thimble and
Themes, all season material with excellent tipping and bolting tolerance in the mini romaine segment and for the heavily Bl:34 and Bl:35 affected French market,
Juniper (green oak) and
Insignia (red oak), give stable performance in the shoulder periods.
Updated resistance information of the Nunhems lettuce assortment can be found in the
