The number of U.S. acres planted to biotech varieties increased again in 2010.
Total corn biotech usage is up one percent from last year, now at 86 percent. That includes a one percent increase in stacked gene corn varieties, up to 47 percent.
Soybean biotech varieties were planted on 93 percent of acres, up two percent from a year ago. And cotton biotech usage increased to 93 percent, up from 88 percent in 2009. Cotton stacked gene varieties increased from 48 to 58 percent.
South Dakota continues to lead the nation in corn biotech seedings, at 95 percent, although that is down one percent from last year.
