MS Technologies™ is working with seed companies to offer a new herbicide-tolerant trait to soybean growers across the United States. In January 2017, MS Technologies and Bayer announced that they had received import approval from China for trait event FG72 (currently sold as GT Brand). FG72 is a double herbicide-tolerant trait stack that confers tolerance to both glyphosate and HPPD herbicides. Currently, there are no HPPD herbicides labeled for use with FG72.
Obtaining Chinese approval for this trait represented a major milestone, as FG72 had received import approval from all of the “Tier 1” import countries. “Tier 1” import countries include, among others, Canada, China, the European Union and the United States, and their import approvals are considered required for commercial launch in the United States.
Soybeans containing the approved trait event FG72 were sold to soybean growers in 2017, and will once again be available from multiple seed companies for planting in 2018.
“Following Chinese approval in January 2017, we were able to get these soybean genetics to growers and seed companies for the 2017 season,” says Joe Merschman, president of MS Technologies. “The results were very good, with growers reporting yields better than varieties they have been planting. MS Technologies is excited to partner with seed companies to offer even more outstanding soybean genetics containing the FG72 trait to growers in 2018.”
