Bayer inaugurates seeds research station in Brazil

Bayer inaugurated a research station for the seeds of fruits and vegetables in Uberlandia, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil in August.
According to the company, it is the most complete research station aimed at produce in the region, where new varieties will be developed.
The research scope and development of the unit has genetic improvement programs for tomatoes, onion, watermelons, carrots, and melons and an area of phytopathology as support. The focus of the station will be the evaluation and development of new hybrids, aimed at the main producing regions of Brazil and the Southern Cone, which will also be attended by other countries.
“Farmers from Brazil and other Latin American countries will benefit from adapted and resistant seeds to their regions,, distributors and commercial partners and, of course, consumers, because they will have the option of healthier and tastier foods,” affirmed Ailton Ribeiro, director of Research of the unit of seeds and vegetables of Bayer for Latin America.
“Therefore, we will strengthen our objective of leadership in the sector of seeds for produce in Brazil, dedicating more to the development of innovative genetics and specialized services for the sector. We have the regional focus, but the development of cultivars can also attend other countries in the world with our technology.”
Bayer has already developed tomato varieties, such as Totalle and Arendell, in the experimental fields that already exist for six years in that city. With the investment, the new structure offers a complete and modern research station with 410,000 square meters of constructed area and experimental fields. They are over 80 employees working at the station.
