Nantong Jiangshan Agrochemical Ltd recently announced the launch of a 26,000-ton amide herbicide extension project (phase 2), covering product varieties such as acetochlor, butachlor, propisochlor and S-metolachlor. The annual project will have a total investment of Yuan124 million.
The phase 1 amide herbicide project (annually 20,000 tons) of Nantong Jiangshan was completed and brought to production in November 2011. Since then, its product has been selling well and has been unable to fulfil the market demand, owing to the good quality of the product, thanks to its high content and low impurity. For this purpose, the company decided to launch an extension project to meet the market demand, as well as product structural perfection.
After the implementation of the phase 2 amide herbicide extension, Nantong Jiangshan would have established an annual technical production capacity of 46,000 tons of amide herbicide, which will complement the already commissioned 70,000-ton glyphosate annual capacity of the company. This will help form a pesticide product structure featuring non-selective herbicide, such as glyphosate, which is being complemented by the selective amide herbicide. The product structure will further enable an increase in the profitability of the company.
Amide herbicide is a conventional selective herbicide, the market volume of which ranks third among the herbicide series, next to only amino acids (glyphosate and glufosinate) and sulfonylurea herbicide. With quick progress in agricultural modernization and crop planting structural adjustment, there will be a great potential market for high quality amide herbicide products. Nantong Jiangshan expects to utilize its quality advantage to expedite the high-end market at home and abroad, which would also avoid the risk of fluctuation in the earnings caused by the rise and fall of the market.
Glyphosate, which is the leading product of Nantong Jiangshan, started to rebound since the second half of 2016. The rising price of glyphosate is expected to benefit the company.
