Koppert starts sale of new biofungicide Trianum in Spain

Koppert Spain has in July started the sale of Trianum, a biological fungicide against soil pathogens without leaving residues and does not create problems of resistance. Trianum has the T-22 strain of Trichoderma harzianum, which belongs to beneficial fungus family Trichoderma.

The T-22 strain, produced and sold exclusively by Koppert, is very effective on all types of soils. Different from other commercial strains, T-22 can survive in a wider range of temperature in the soil by remaining active between 8 and 34 and at pH levels from 4 to 8.5. During this period, the spores germinate and T-22 starts the protective action against the pathogens. Besides this, T-22 is one of the few strains of Trichoderma with a European registration for sale (registered in the Official Register of Phytosanitary Product with No. 25889) and authorization for use in ecological agriculture.

The T-22 strain was obtained through hybridization. After a complete and exhaustive process of selection, two strains of Trichoderma harzianum were chosen that had good disease resistance properties. One of these strains works well at high temperatures and dry conditions, while the other acts better in cold and wet conditions. Both were crossed and the result was Trianum.

Through tests with the strain since 1999, Koppert demonstrated that Trichoderma T-22 was a beneficial fungus that acts as a protective shield against the pathogens, and at the same time, prevents fungal diseases of the root, such as Fusarium, Sclerotinia, Rhizoctonia, Phytium, and nematodes. Besides these, it acts as a promoter of growth by boosting the production of secondary roots and ensuring better root growth, similar to a rooting, because Trianum is capable of metabolizing substances that improve vegetable nutrition.

Trianum offers high compatibility with the majority of phytosanitary that are used frequently in agriculture, including for tank mixtures. Different from several conventional fungicides, Trianum does not detain the root growth and reduces significantly the production of non-optimal plants.

The tests made by the R&D department of Koppert confirmed that the T-22 strain of Trichoderma can replace some conventional soil fungicides, also reducing chemical inputs. Concerning production, the tests by Koppert confirmed that the T-22 strain of Trianum can increase production by up to 20%.
