Copper agent is the world’s sixth best fungicide with an annual sales turnover of around $600 million, having been used worldwide for over 100 years. However, the use of copper agent in China is restricted due to the risk of phytotoxicity, caused by inorganic copper agent. In the recent years, most of the organic agent, which is neutral, compatible, mixable, safe, easy to use and handle, have gradually become popular in the market. In the meantime, inorganic copper agent, which is upgraded through a new process with good mixability and high safety has captured a certain market.
Over the last years, China’s demand for fungicide has been growing, which has contributed to the high-speed development of fungicide in China. However, there is not yet a synthetic organic pesticide which can match the effectiveness of copper agent. Currently, bacterial diseases such as citrus canker, rice bacterial streak, rice bacterial blight, rice root rot and Chinese cabbage soft rot are widely prevalent, thus creating advantageous conditions for the development of copper agent in China.
The gap in the development of Chinese copper agent market and the demand in the global copper agent market ensures great potential for the Chinese copper agent market, which also presents a good business opportunity for international copper agent vendors. Several years ago, a few international enterprises had started exploring the great potential for the copper agent market in China and made remarkable achievement. In 2012, Quimetal Industrial S.A. and Ningbo Sunjoy Cropscience Ltd began their cooperation in the development of Chinese copper agent market. In 2015, their Bordeaux mixture 86% DF was registered in the trade name of Zhiduoshou DF. Currently, three products are in the process of registration, which are sulfur 80% DF, copper oxychloride 84% DF and copper hydroxide 77% DF. By virtue of its Zhiduoshou DF, Quimetal Industrial S.A. is the first pesticide enterprise from South America entering the Chinese market.
With the implementation of China’s pesticide zero-use growth initiative, China’s demand for highly-efficient, safe and environment-friendly copper agent is expected to grow continuously. A top pesticide distributor in China has expressed its strong interest in the distribution of copper agent and other green pesticide formulations, hoping to obtain more information on this kind of product and to seek partners for cooperation via participation in the
