The crop protection and seeds businesses of Syngenta AG in Japan will be merged into one by the end of this July to strengthen the group’s agribusiness in the Japanese market, Syngenta Japan said January 28.
The Tokyo-based company, which handles crop-protection-related sales, will absorb Syngenta Seeds, which handles the sales of seeds for vegetables and fruit trees from its office in Tako, Chiba. The integrated company will be able to offer comprehensive solutions drawn from the group’s extensive lineups of products and services that encompass pesticides, seeds, and products for lawns and gardens.
By combining the two currently separate businesses, synergetic benefits are expected in areas such as operations, marketing and R&D, particularly seed-treatment products that can lessen the frequency of pesticide spraying and save labor for farmers. Syngenta Japan has had success already with soybeans treated with Cruiser seed-treatment insecticide, which is in popular use in Hokkaido.
