BR.A Defensivos Agricolas has registered the insecticide/acaricide Copa (diflubenzuron) in Brazil.

The product is used to control the velvetbean caterpillar (Anticarsia gemmatalis) and, in corn, against the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). On wheat, Copa is recommended for the control of the grasshopper Rhammatocerus spp. and the Pseudaletia sequax.

In tomato, the insecticide combats small tomato borer (Neoleucinodes elegantalis), the corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea), the moth (Phthorimaea operculella), and the tomato leaf miner moth (Tuta absoluta). According to the package leaflet, the product could also be used for the control of the cotton leafworm (Alabama argillacea) and the citrus fruit borer (Ecdytolopha aurantiana).

Diflubenzuron acts to interfere in the synthesis of the chitin present on the cuticle of insects. Copa acts mainly for ingestion, making the larvae difficult to molt, resulting in the death of the larvae.

The product, however, does not have systemic effect on plants and does not penetrate the vegetable tissue. This way, the sucking insects are not affected, bringing an additional selectivity among the insects.
