Arysta LifeScience and its Public Health Unit continue the fight against Malaria

The Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) unit of Arysta LifeScience is once again joining with other global organizations to mark World Malaria Day on April 25, 2017, highlighting the need for continued investment and commitment to malaria prevention and control.

"Arysta is proud to be part of this annual observance, sponsoring and attending an array of events held all over Africa, including Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Senegal, to name just a few," says Marcel Dreyer, CEO for Southern, Eastern Africa and Public Health. "EMEA plays a direct role in saving lives and improving the quality of life for thousands of people in Africa through its Public Health unit, so we are pleased to help call attention to what is a serious threat to people in the regions we serve."

Malaria continues to be a major cause and consequence of global poverty and inequity, and it affects some of the poorest members of society living in the least-developed areas. Many of the most vulnerable – especially young children and pregnant women – are still unable to access life-saving prevention, diagnosis and treatment. According to the World Malaria Report 2016, in 2015, there were 212 million new cases of malaria and 429,000 deaths.

"Our Public Health unit is about helping people to stay healthy and protecting them from threats to their health," says Dr. Rose Peter, Sales and Development Manager for Africa "So we deal with the vector control side of public health and, specifically, the control of mosquito vectors by targeting them through indoor residual spraying, fogging or larviciding."

Public Health distributes the three market-leading products used in vector control: Actellic®300CS*, a formulation of the organophosphate insecticide pirimiphosmethyl; Icon®10CS*, a formulation of the second-generation pyrethroid lambda-cyhalothrin; and Dimilin®, a larvicide based on the active ingredient diflubenzuron.

EMEA's Public Health unit is a small but efficient team and includes Dr. Rose Peter;  Philippe Perrocheau, head of the unit and Patricia Nayegon a customer service agent both based in Mauritius; East Africa Associate, Peter Muthee, who is based in Nairobi, Kenya; and Hawa Diallo, who is responsible for the Western and Central Africa Regions and is based in Dakar, Senegal.

"Our company's core values include safety and stewardship," says Marcel Dreyer "Our Public Health team proves that every day, as they travel its territories providing knowledge about solutions that control one of the most tragic—but preventable—diseases in Africa."
