The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently approved the use of isoxaflutole in Minnesota, paving the way for corn growers in select counties to apply Corvus® and Balance® Flexx herbicides in their fields without restriction.

“This is a big win for Minnesota corn growers,” said Jody Wynia, corn marketing manager for Bayer CropScience. “Now that these restrictions have been lifted, growers will finally be able to implement complete weed control solutions across their operations. This will allow them to significantly bolster their crop protection.”

Current restrictions are within 66 feet of the points where field surface water runoff enters perennial streams and rivers or within 200 feet around natural or impounded lakes and reservoirs. Mixing and loading were also restricted within 50 feet of surface water or wells. Previously Corvus and Balance Flexx applications were also restricted from applications within 66 feet of standpipes.

“It’s a chain of reactions that will come to benefit everyone somewhere down the line,” said Wynia. “Growers now have the opportunity to produce higher yielding crops, potentially leading to a sizable increase in their ROI.”

Corvus and Balance Flexx can be applied south of I-94 in Minnesota, with the exception of Dakota, Dodge, Fillmore, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Wabasha and Winona counties.

Corvus and Balance Flexx also contain Crop Safety Innovation (CSI™) Safener technology, which is exclusive to Bayer CropScience products. This safener has both soil and foliar uptake, making it active during both pre- and early post-emergence herbicide applications. This safener enables the plant to better withstand herbicidal activity, which leads to increased root growth and plant health.

The availability of Corvus and Balance Flexx offers Minnesota growers two new choices in the fight against resistant weeds. Tankmix Corvus with atrazine and another herbicide such as 2,4-D, DiFlexx®, Liberty® or a glyphosate-based herbicide to have four sites of action in a single tankmix.

With application rates ranging from 3.3 to 5.6 fl oz/A, Corvus delivers broad-spectrum control of more than 65 grass and broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to glyphosate, ALS, PPO and triazine herbicides. Corvus offers burndown control to take out early weeds, residual activity prevents new weeds and reactivation gets late weeds. For more information, visit www.Corvus.us.

Balance® Flexx pre-emergence corn herbicide protects yields from the start by providing tough, broad-spectrum weed control on contact and then reactivating to kill late-emerging weeds. Balance Flexx is the ideal pre-emergence herbicide for all corn varieties in sandy soil, including ALS sensitive hybrids, and offers flexible crop rotation.
