Dhanuka Agritech strives for water conservation in India

Dhanuka Agritech Limited, one of India‘’s leading Agrochemical Formulations companies participated in WORLD WATER DAY- conference on Integrated Water Resource Management for Enhancing Farmers' Income held at New Delhi. The event was jointly organized by ASSOCHAM and Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare with an aim to enhance farmer’s income. The event was inaugurated by Mr. S.K. Pattanayak, IAS, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Government of India and saw participation from key dignitaries and industry leaders.

With an aim to propagate water conservation, the seminar proved to be a platform to discuss challenges of integrated water resource management, creating awareness among farmers about the value and scarcity of resources, sharing technologies and services towards efficient use of water in agriculture.

In India, the surface water potential is about 180 million ha m and the ground water resource is about 44 million ha m. With annual precipitation of about 400 million ha m, the average annual natural flow is about 188 million ha m. The annual requirement of fresh water is estimated at 105 million ha m by the year 2025 AD which is nearly equal to the ultimate water resources level of the country. Although India has the largest irrigation system in the world, its water use efficiency has not been more than 40 %. If it continues, water crisis would lead to reduced production and productivity, which would affect the quality of life of the people. This calls for productive use of water, more crop per drop. This would need efficiency at all the levels, storage, distribution and application.

For years Dhanuka Agritech Limited has been continuously educating and spreading awareness on water conservation. In 2014, Dhanuka Agritech funded the construction of two check dams in Sikar district. Looking at the response of the initiative, two additional dams were constructed in 2016 to ensure maximum awareness of water conservation in a rain starved state like Rajasthan. These campaigns have known to benefit over 8000 villagers in Rajasthan.
