In June of 2015, the patent of pyraclostrobin technical in China expired, which brought new opportunities for China’s pesticide industry, with domestic manufacturers launched this product one after another. In 2016, pyraclostrobin market showed skyrocketing trend. Domestic enterprises’ registration certificates were issued constantly, and the formulation products in market sharply increased. Pyraclostrobin technical was in short supply at the high price of 350,000 yuan / ton. Viewed from the production capacity of technical, Shandong Hailir Chemical, Shandong Kangqiao Bio-technology, Sentay Chemical and other companies improved or expanded capacity successively, and new capacity is expected to be released in the second half of 2017, affected by which pyraclostrobin market will face white-hot competition in 2017. 
 
Pyraclostrobin Registration Skyrockets in 2016 
 
According to AgroPages Registration Watch, as of December 31, 2016, pyraclostrobin product registered in ICAMA (Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture) were 188, including 45 technical products which cover three kinds of concentration, namely 97%, 97.5% and 98%.

The involved enterprises included 42 domestic enterprises and two foreign companies BASF and MESA (Refer to Appendix A). There were 143 formulation registration certificates, and the most registered formulation types were SC, WG and WC, totally recorded 9 types. 
 
As can be seen from Figure 1 and Table 1, only in the year 2016, the new registration certificates of pyraclostrobin products increased rapidly, the numbers of new growth reached 139, in which the technical registration certificates increased by 19 and they were all registered by the domestic enterprises. The number of the formulation registrations increased by 120, and all were registered by domestic enterprises except 14 BASF-registered products. The newly increased registrations of technical and formulations in 2016 accounted for 43% and 83% respectively of those of the past years, which showed the favor over this variety in the post-patent market.
 
High-end Formulation Shortage and Registration Target Concentration 
 
- Active Ingredient Analysis 
 
Seen from Figure 2, pyraclostrobin products with single formulation have the highest proportion of 67.4% in all the 143 registered formulation products. Mixture products are relatively few, with the majority partners being fungicides and resistance inducer, including Dimethomorph, Metiram, Difenoconazole, Tebuconazole, Boscalid, Dichloroanthraquinone and others.

- Formulation Type Analysis 
 
In terms of formulation type, pyraclostrobin formulation products are concentrated in SC, WG, WC, while CS and other highly environmental-friendly new types are fewer, as is evident from Figure3. Since the technical patent expired last year, the original pyraclostrobin patent holder BASF has been actively looking for new growth points and makes the successful research and development of new product Daoqing® of pyraclostrobin SC. Compared with traditional formulation fypes, this new microcapsule technology improves the toxicological properties of the product to the aquatic organism and is more environmental-friendly.

-Target crop analysis 
 
Currently, target crops of the domestic pyraclostrobin products mainly focus on high-value crops like fruit trees and vegetables. As shown in Figure 4, the target crops of the most registered products are cucumber, apple, banana and grape, reaching 47, 37, 32 and 14 respectively in the registration targets of 143 formulation products (Repeated registrations exist because partial product registrations involve more than one crop). Other crops include potatoes, citrus, watermelon, pepper and so on. However, the registrations of field crops like rice are only two. 
 
Viewed from the global market, pyraclostrobin’s market share is mainly in field crops of dry lands. Soybean, grain and corn account for 60% of the market share while fruit trees and vegetables only account for about 20%, so in the future pyraclostrobin being used for field crops will have a huge market in China.
