BASF launches new fungicide Vision Plus for Spanish market

GermanyBASF launched its new fungicide product Vision Plus (pyrimethanil + dithianon)—with unique mode of action for pome fruits— last month in Lleida, Spain.
The major characteristic for this product is its formulation, based on co-crystal, which is a unique chemical structure. The product could protect apples and pears against the apple scab (venturia inaequalis). The co-crystal of Vision Plus is formed by highly recognized components: pyrimethanil, which are effective in facing the penetration and development of mycelium, and dithianon, which is effective against germination of spores.
Due to this unique formulation, Vision Plus reduces considerably the evaporation of pyrimethanil, 67 percent of which is connected to co-crystal. After its application, co-crystals are dissolved with moisture and water releases pyrimethanil for the interior and dithianon for the protection of the surface.
At this point, 33 percent of pyrimethanil is free in the formulation (not connected to co-crystal structure) and is available immediately for the plant, offering an excellent protection to the interior and bringing about effective healing. On the other hand, dithianon and pyrimethanil are connected to the co-crystal structure form a stable protective layer on the surface and release with time, bringing a lasting effectiveness.
A week after the application of the product, the same quantity of active ingredient on the leaves and fruits is still observed. A formulation without co-crystals could have lost 70 percent of pyrimethanil after four days and more than 90 percent a week later.
Besides, the co-crystal technology implies a smaller dependency on the climate once it can be used during high or low temperatures. The co-crystal reduces significantly the rapid evaporation of pyrimethanil in the months with heat and can be used for a wide variety of applications, including flowering and the gel of fruits.
The structure of co-crystals that bring the main benefits of the product are its high stability, permanency, flexible use, independent effectiveness of temperatures, etc.
Vision Plus combines the best products on the market: dithianon, with the most potent system for the control of the apple scab, and pyrimethanil, through the procedure of specific formulation to guarantee permanent reliability.
