Syngenta has launched in Portugal the Axial Pro, a herbicide for the control of invasive plants with narrow leaves on wheat and barley. According to the maker, it is a product with a new formulation that is more robust and simple to use without the necessity of humectants.
Syngenta indicates Axial Pro for weeds such as the bunchgrass, ryegrass and the beard-grass. Gilberto Lopes, field expert of Syngenta, explained that Axial Pro was formulated with the technology, ‘Built-in-wetter’ of Syngenta, which incorporates, more than the active substance of the herbicide, Pinoxadene, but the ideal humectant and other supporters that guarantee the effectiveness and convenience in using the product.
“The formulation guarantees a faster penetration of weedy leaves, a potent humectant effect and lower risk of errors in dose and management. Also there is no need to add any extra humectant. Axial Pro has a wide window of application during the development cycle of cereals, and can be applied since the start of canning until the half of plumbing, with a recommended dose of between 0.5 and 1/hectare,” explained Lopes.
Tests conducted in Portugal with Axial Pro at the Alentejo demonstrate that this herbicide does not generate any problems of phytotoxicity on wheat and barley, does not affect the development of plant and does not present restrictions regarding rotations on other crops (canola, pea and broad bean, etc.).
Axial was developed at the Jeallot’s Hill Investigation Center in the United Kingdom. The research started in 1990 and after the effectiveness and safety tests, Axial arrived for the first time in the market in 2009. Axial Pro is a second generation of this herbicide.
Syngenta has put in much attention and investment and remains dedicated to the formulation of products with an aim to make these more safe and convenient for the user and robust from the view-point of effective plant protection.
