Ourofino Agrociência and Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology have signed a biological cooperation agreement to develop a new line of biological products, including bioinsecticides, bioherbicides and biofungicides, among others. The most effective products will be used in a new market that is expanding in Brazil.

According to data compiled by Dunham Trimmer (Farm Chemicals International), between 2007 and 2015 the sector has grown over 300%, and is expected to reach sales of over US$ 2 billion. In Brazil, in 2014, the sector corresponded to US$ 113 million, according to the Brazilian Association of Biological Control Companies (ABC Bio).

“We want to be the counter-part of Embrapa in the formulation of biological products that come quickly to the market, and with the ability to provide the necessities for the nation’s producers. We want to take advantage of the deep scientific knowledge accumulated by Embrapa throughout four decades, and contribute to shorten the way between the laboratory and the field,” noted Norival Bonamichi, president of Ourofino Agrociência, who stressed the importance of Integrated Plague Management.

Ourofino Agrociência, a Brazilian company, has developed adequate formulations suitable to local climate conditions, which registers high temperatures and large numbers of plagues and diseases, besides insolation and other characteristic factors that make Brazil a unique country. “Science is the engine of development in the country. Those in leadership need to invest to strengthen several sectors of the economy, including agriculture,” says Maurício Antonio Lopes, president of Embrapa.

The importance of the agreement was restated by José Manuel Cabral de Sousa Dias, interim general-chief of Embrapa. “The results of the research will generate innovative products,” he added.
