FMC launches Stone herbicide to control weeds on sugarcane

FMC Agricultural Solutions has announced the launch in the Brazilian market of the herbicide Stone (diuron + sulfentrazone) to combat the weeds on sugarcane. According to the company, the product has a wide spectrum control for major weeds such as the common morning glory, Java grass, the Palmer Amaranh, signal grass, the southern sandbur, the Benghal dayflower, and goosegrass.

According to FMC, the product is associated with two molecules that act in a “synergistic way for the best control of weeds in a humid period and are critical for the canebrake. The differential of the product is the two molecules that are complementary, bringing wider distribution across soil profiles during humid periods. The low diuron solubility and average solubility of Sulfentrazone bring this characteristic to the product.”

"Herbicide Stone has a pre-emergent action and initial post-emergent action for the control of grass, Cyperaceous, and broad leaves, eliminating all the bush competition and favoring the most productive potential for sugarcane. The product was developed for application during the pre-emergence of sugarcane, offering selectivity for the crop during its period of greatest development,” explained Herbicide Manager of FMC Kedilei Duarte.

Field tests by FMC and research agencies in Brazil have shown the excellent selectivity of Stone for sugarcane, taking into consideration different crop varieties, soils, and weather patterns. The humid periods are the most critical for the sugarcane producer. In the southern region, this period goes from October to March, while in the northeastern region, the rains are concentrated in the months of May, June, and July.
