From 24 – 26 October, the 11th Annual Biocontrol Industry Meeting (ABIM) was held successfully in Basel Switzerland, as co-sponsored by the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA) and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FIBL), having attracted presence of nearly 900 biopesticide industry representatives from 426 enterprises across 48 countries.
With the global proceeding of reduction of use of chemical pesticide, biopesticide and biological control-oriented product are attracting more and more attentions. Over the last years, chemical pesticide giants like BASF and Syngenta, have landed in the biopesticide sector via merge and acquisition activities. Some small and medium size conventional pesticide manufacturers are also speeding up their progress of biopesticide research and development. Biopesticide has grown significantly over last years, however its market share still remains to be a rather small portion in the overall pesticide market. The difficultness of product registration and farmer’s lack of awareness continue to be obstacles to the development of biopesticide, which are required to be solved at all imminent.
Since the initial session of ABIM in 2006, there have been 11 sessions up to date, which has become a top-level gathering of biological control industry sector. ABIM provides biological enterprises worldwide with a good platform for product exhibition and chances of establishment of business partnership. In the meantime, ABIM exerts a major influence on governmental policymaking and supervision authorities, being driving engine to the fast development of biopesticide industry in an all-round manner.
As an ABIM media partner this time, AgroPages has participated in all stages of this session, and has presented to all participants its latest biopesticide journal - 2016 Biopesticide Supplement.
