Syngenta has announced the launch of the “Clean Crop” program in Brazil, which proposes the rotation of six active principles to overcome weed resistance. According to Francisco Gutierrez, Product Manager at Herbicides of Syngenta, , the goal of the initiative is to seek “the correct management of weeds that invade and compromise crops, and become an ally of farmers to return to full productivity, which stresses one of the major commitments assumed by the Sustainable Agriculture Plan of Syngenta, which aims to increase yields by up to 20% in average crops throughout the world”.
Some 15 years ago, the planting of resistant soybeans to glyphosate began in Brazil. “This meant that weed management was based on only one active ingredient: glyphosate. The excessive use of glyphosate forced a selection of resistant weeds that were tolerant to this principle. With a profound comprehension of this scenario, Syngenta sought to find a solution with a modern view of the solutions of the past to combat this problem.”
Francisco Gutierrez explains the proposal of the Clean Crop Program: “We start with Zapp QI 15 days before the planting of simultaneous applications with Clethodim; on the day of planting, one application of Gramocil occurs, which has two different active principles, and Dual Gold; as follows, at the post-emergency phase, one application of Zapp Qi is set down simultaneously to Clethodim at the stage of maturation of the crop and, in the end, an application of Reglone. The products with different active ingredients act in a different way on the plant, avoiding the appearance of resistant plants. The result of this system is a gain of nine bags, about the standard of productivity for the farmer”.
According to the manager of Syngenta, a staff of agronomists will make the correct recommendations according to the situation, helping the farmer to succeed in areas infested by resistant weeds to glyphosate. “The staff are being well received by producers, and this partnership will bring superior results for everyone. With a strong technical proposal, several active principles of Syngenta, working in combination, and synergy between diverse actors in the field, we will have more and more clean crops in the future,” he noted.
