The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) of Brazil has identified eight plagues that pose greater phytosanitary risks, and will provide a priority for analysis and registration of agrochemicals. The list was published in the Official Union Gazette on August 15, and is in force for one year, according to Ordinance No. 82 (August 12 of 2016) signed by the Secretary of Agricultural Defense, Luis Rangel.
The second article of the Ordinance defines: “Plagues of greater phytosanitary risk and economic importance are considered to need prioritization for its control of products, the following plagues and their respective crops:
I – Asian Rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) - Soybeans
II – White mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) – Soybeans, Kidney Beans and Cotton
III – Helicoverpa armigera;
IV – Whitefly (Bemisia Tabaci) – Kidney beans, Tomato, Mellon and Soybeans
V – Nematods (Meloidogyne javanica, Meloidogyne incognita, Heterodera glycines and Pratylenchus brachyurus) – Soybeans
VI – Coffee Berry Borer (Hypothenemus hampei) – Coffee
VII – Weeds (Conyza bonariensis and Digitaria Insularis) – Soybeans, Cotton and Kidney Beans
VIII – Boll Weevil (Antonomus Grandis) – Cotton
According to the fourth article, “The companies that meet the requirements of registration already protocoled the described demands in this ordinance should be presented in five working days, counting from this publication, containing: number of registration process, commercial brand, active ingredient(s), target to be controlled and action mode of the product.” According to Mapa, the list will be submitted to the address
