Concern over the need to increase crop yields and reduce the costs of production has spurred demand for air-conditioned warehouses for seeds. Having seen this market grow by over 80% per year, Dow and Isoeste have started a partnership to increase the supply of sheds with heat-isolating constructive systems that have high energetic efficiency and controlled moisture and temperature, guaranteeing that the grains last longer.

"Adequate conservation allows the soybeans, corn, sunflowers, cotton, and other seeds to maintain most of their biological, chemical, and physical characteristics for a longer period, so long as the supplier follows the requirements for certification," said Sérgio Bandeira de Mattos, director of Development and Market Relations at Isoeste.

The most efficient solution for cooling the warehouses are polyurethane panels and roof tiles, considered the best insulator in the market. The panels block the entry of heat and environmental impurities, and the cost of maintaining the shed's temperature and internal humidity is low. "Besides guaranteeing temperature control, the constructive system eliminates 100% of the water used in assembly and reduces the current energy consumption by up to 60%," stated Marcelo Fiszner, marketing director of Dow for the polyurethane business in Latin America.

Apart from supplying the market's major players, the two companies also supply the system directly to producers. Small and mid-sized chambers are available, taking at least two months to build. There is also an important financial gain: Capital invested in a 3,000-hectare farm is returned in 31 months. On a farm of 9,000 hectares, this period reduces to 21 months.
