Bayer announced this week the launch of the herbicide Esplanade, a solution aimed at eliminating weed infestations during reforestation. According to the manufacturer, the product stands apart from its competition by reducing the number of applications needed to manage weeds during reforestation.
Esplanade, registered in Brazil for the crops of eucalyptus and pinus, is the result of over nine years of research. More than 50 tests conducted in the country over the last two years have revealed that the herbicide reduces costs, based on spending fewer days in the field, by 35% per day.
"The market for reforestation products is being consolidated in Brazil, and companies have sought alternatives to improve the competitiveness of their businesses. As it contains a new molecule with a high residue factor for the control of weeds, Esplanade can contribute to the reduction of total operating costs and increase control over resistant weeds,” stated Luís Brena, sales and marketing manager of the Forest Business at Bayer.
Brena pointed out that the product was developed to serve “a market of vertical industries for reforestation and producers of pulp, paper, wood panels, and laminates. The product's main advantage is its ability to delay the appearance of new weeds by more than 150 days by impeding the germination of their seeds, allowing producers to avoid at least one application of weed-control solutions in their current management system.”
