Syngenta US introduces two new AgriPro® brand winter wheat varieties to growers in the Pacific Northwest

Syngenta US is adding to the proven AgriPro® brand wheat portfolio with the introduction of SY Assure and SY Touchstone winter wheat varieties, available for 2016 winter wheat planting in the Pacific Northwest.

“We’re excited to offer SY Assure and SY Touchstone this year as certified seed to the Pacific Northwest winter wheat market,” said Tony Severa, cereals key account lead, Syngenta. “These varieties are an excellent option for planting this fall as they have excelled in yield trials across the region and thrive in high input, irrigated areas, while offering a superior agronomic package.”

•    SY Assure: SY Assure is a soft white winter wheat variety with a short plant height, early maturity and good straw strength – much like SY Ovation. This variety has a good disease tolerance package, with excellent stripe rust tolerance and resistance to current races of rust. SY Assure has the highest yield potential in high rainfall regions of western Idaho, eastern Washington and northern Oregon, and irrigated production areas in the southern Snake River region of Idaho and Washington.
•    SY Touchstone: SY Touchstone is a broadly adapted, hard red winter wheat variety with very high yield potential, plus good protein and grain quality. With an early maturity, this variety has shown good snow mold and winter hardiness, plus good stripe rust tolerance traits. SY Touchstone is best suited for high rainfall regions in western Idaho, eastern Washington and northern Oregon, and irrigated production areas in the southern Snake River region of Idaho and Washington.

Other AgriPro winter wheat varieties for the Pacific Northwest include AP503 CL2, AP700 CL, AP Badger, AP Legacy, Legion, SY 107, SY Clearstone CL2, SY Ovation, and Whetstone.

As winter wheat growers prepare for the upcoming planting season, Syngenta recommends implementing an integrated approach to crop management. Syngenta urges growers to select varieties with superior genetics and to use balanced agronomic practices. Planting quality certified seed varieties and incorporating good planting practices, such as residue management, following proper seeding rates and applying seed treatments, are critical to helping wheat start strong.

Seed treatments like CruiserMaxx® Vibrance® Cereals insecticide/fungicide protect seeds the moment they are planted. As the season progresses, growers are encouraged to scout and apply foliar fungicides as necessary. Growers who choose an integrated management approach will greatly benefit at harvest time, having maximized both their wheat yield and profit potential.
