Nufarm’s Smite acaricide was included at the list of Integrated Citrus Production in Brazil, which is elaborated and released at the level of the citrus productive chain in the country. One recommended agrochemical to control mites from leprosies, Smite acts over eggs, larvae and nymphs, interrupting the plague cycle before it reaches the adult phase.
According to Nufarm’s technical department, the product also presents a transovarial action with female adults of leprosis and it is selective for natural enemies of this plague. “These applications should start soon at the beginning of the infestation, when the eggs presence is concluded or at the juvenile forms of leprosies mites,” points out Murilo Borges, agronomist, insecticide and fungicide manager at Nufarm.
The Integrated Citrus Production list is formulated and periodically updated through a committee by research institution, consultants and juice industries. It aims, overall, to help the citrus growers to adapt to good agricultural practices as well as to guide to use only the products of this list.
In the coming days, Nufarm will lead to a field information program for the citrus grower. The company has the goal to disseminate the best practices to control the mite complex of citrus in the 2016/2017 season, including the resistance management of mites on crops. This measure preserves the susceptibility of mites and insects to the active ingredients of agrochemicals today registered in Brazil.
“In order to maintain the effectiveness of acaricides over the plagues, the farmer should not use products with a unique mode of action during the season,” explains Murilo Borges.
