Bayer has just obtained the extension of the use of Infinito fungicide for various fruits and vegetables in Brazil. Used previously for the control of diseases on potatoes, tomatoes and tobacco, now the fungicide is also for lettuce, melon, onion, pink papaya, watermelon, chayote, cucumber, peppers, eggplant, cabbage, pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, okra, broccoli, kohlrabi and cauliflower.
"With this extension of the use, the benefits will not be just for the farmer, which will have an innovative tool for disease management on planting, but also for the final consumer of these fruits and vegetables for the correct and safe use of a fungicide rightfully registered for these crops. This is an important step in the consistent support for fruit producers and vegetables and development of this segment,” says Fábio Maia, Strategic Marketing manager for Fruits and Vegetables at Bayer’s Crop Science division.
Maia yet explains that this extension comprehends very important crops for the Brazilian economy, such as watermelon, melon and papaya. “This movement benefits the domestic market, responsible for almost 95% of consumption of these crops”.
The use of Infinito for the treatment of these crops promotes the control of diseases such as mildew, major fungi disease on tropical areas, can cause losses of up to 100% of the production; and the blight, which provokes the premature fall of leaves and hurts the fruits maturation, making them inadequate for the commercialization.
"Those are diseases that reduce the fruit and vegetable production, cutting the yields. Using this management, the producer has the safety that is using a product destined to control diseases of the crops in question,” finalizes Maia.
