The Brazilian Association of Biological Control Companies (ABCBio) decided to enhance the Program of Conformity of Biological Inputs. The main goal is to bring more trust to the sector, due to the increased cases of products sold irregularly without certification or quality control.
The entity reminds that these problems occur due to the “expressive growth in the last years at the sales of biological agrochemicals”. According to ABCBio, the use of irregular products “can be unsafe for the environment and human, besides the doubtful agronomic effectiveness”.
"To ease the verification of the products, ABCBio helps the analysis, done by recognized laboratories of the products with some suspicious. It emphasized that every product that contains a biological agent of control should follow specific legislation and pass through several tests. The use of nonconforming products by producers is illegal,” says a statement of the association.
According to the direction of ABCBio, the production and commercialization of irregular products decontrol of plagues where are applied, besides not giving expected results for the farmer. This latter collateral effect of the use of products without registration is especially serious for this sector because it puts the effectiveness of biological crop protection products in doubt, an overriding factor to guarantee the credibility of a segment that has recognized environmental and economic advantages, and has accounted wide growth.
"Especially in the Brazilian cases, the area of biopesticides has achieved a big highlight due to the importance that the products of biological control had recently serious phytosanitary problems in some crops. The most remarkable example of this situation was the appearance of Helicoverpa armigera, mostly in the west of Bahia, besides the white mold,” concludes the entity.
