Advancing training programs started in 2014, which already had the participation of over 7,000 farmers, the Initiative 2,4-D was confirmed for 2016 in Brazil. The project is formed by companies of Atanor, Dow AgroSciences and Nufarm in order to generate technical information about the correct and safe use of agrochemicals, and send researchers to discuss with local farmers a scenario of weed resistance in each region, guiding them on control strategies more appropriate for each situation.
"The information is the main tool for the evolution of our agriculture. In 2016, we will continue to go throughout the country to share the most recent researches about weed control for those who are in the field,” affirms the 2,4-D Initiative coordinator, Ana Cristina Pinheiro.
This year an issue to discuss will be the whole of herbicides and good agricultural practices when combating weeds, besides the introduction of technical aspects of 2,4-D as well as its chemical-physical characteristics, regulatory situation, toxicity studies, eco-toxicity and safety in the field. According to Mauro Rizzardi, a Professor at the University of Passo Fundo and partner of the 2,4-D Initiative, the weeds are a very important point to look at seriously with agricultural production.
"The productivity losses due to the presence of weeds can reach up to 40% and the producer is able to avoid this loss by adopting the right technical conditions such as crop rotation, diversity of control methods and the use of herbicides with different mechanisms of action,” affirms the researcher.
The conferences will be done in partnership with universities throughout 15 cities in the states of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Minas Gerais and São Paulo, from March to July of 2016.
