Highlights:

According to AgroPages China Pesticide Registration Watch, the Chinese Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA) has approved 3294 pesticide registrations in 2015, down by 3.2% comparing with 2014. With registration number of 1000, fungicide took the place of insecticide, to be the largest category in 2015, accounting for 30.3% of the total. Insecticide registrations dropped by 14.1%, accounting for 28% of the total. Herbicide ranked the third with registration number of 933, accounting for 28%, up by 2.9%. (Figure 1) In 2015, the total amount of registered technicals was 429, single active formulations was 1833, which represented more than 55% of all registrations, and number of mixtures is 1032, accounting for 31.3%. According to pesticide product, Glufosinate-ammonium was most registered herbicide both in technicals and single formulations (Table 1-1), which more, pyraclostrobin and thiamethoxam were respectively the most registered fungicide and insecticide. As per the statistics by crops, more than 50% of products were registered on rice, corn, wheat, cabbage, cucumber, apple and citrus (Figure 2). For herbicides, most of products were registered on corn, rice, wheat and citrus, registrations on these 4 crops represent 56% of all the registrations of herbicides. Regarding insecticides, the main target crops were rice, cabbage, citrus, corn and wheat, which occupied 66% of total registrations of insecticides. While for fungicides, most registrations were on rice, cucumber, apple and wheat, taking up 57% of total registrations of fungicides. According to incomplete statistics, there were 33 products registered in China for the first time in 2015 (Table 2), the majority was fungicide premix products which registered on cash crops. Multinationals were the major force of pesticides registrants in 2015. According to number of registration, BASF was on the top of the list, followed by Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroScience. The second tier of registrants is composed of DuPont, Syngenta, DongbuHannong, Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha and Nippon Kayaku, each of them registered a new active ingredient or formulation in China in 2015. Chinese companies have impressive performances in registering new pesticide during last year, for example, Shanghai Shengnong registered their patent neonicotinoid insecticide cycloxaprid; Shaanxi Sunger Road Bio-Science got the registration for their patent botanical antivirotic β-sitosterol; Shandong United Pesticide registered a SDHI fungicide fluoride ether bacteria amide, it was also a patent product; besides, the other two patent products approved were Fujuntong (aromatic fungicide) and Yizuomanjing (acaricide), which respectively from Jiangsu Tenglong and Shenyang Sciencreat Chemical.
