DuPont obtains registration for Benevia® to control whitefly in Brazil

DuPont Brazil Crop Protection has obtained the official registration from Brazilian agencies for the application of Benevia® insecticide in order to control the whitefly (Bemisia tabaci). The release was also granted for the management of other different pests in 30 crops in the country.

"The high infestations of whitefly generate significant losses on production and the losses are significant for the farmers,” explains agronomist Ademilson Villela, marketing manager at DuPont. The agronomist also explains that the insecticide was developed based on the latest generation of chemical molecule, which the active ingredient is the Cyantraniliprole.

He adds that the product has been successfully used as emergency to control the Coffee Berry Borer in the states of Minas Geraos, São Paulo and Espírito Santo. “It is the most effective technology available in Brazil to control the Berry Borer on coffee. On other crops that it has obtained registration, the product will represent a significant technological advance,” believes Villelal.

The plague acts through direct suction: by sucking the sap from plants, it interferes at the vegetative development and reproductive stage of grain and fruits, reducing the yields and quality of the crops. Experts that testes the Benevia® insecticide defined it as being a technology of rupture, with a unique mode of action and different from traditional insecticides.

"It is a product of the toxicological class IV, green belt, therefore with low toxicity, with insecticide potential and also selective for the natural enemies of the plagues that it controls,” adds DuPont's marketing manager. The sales will start after obtaining the state records.
