Canada approved 14 new ais in FY2015

The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) approved 14 new active ingredients in fiscal 2015 ended March 31st 2015, according to the PMRA's 2014–2015 annual report. Of the 14 new active ingredients, 5 were biopesticides and 9 were conventional (i.e. chemical) pesticides. For details see the table below.

The conventional pesticides approved include BASF/Otsuka Chemical's acaricide cyflumetofen; Dow AgroSciences' herbicide halauxifen; DuPont's herbicide aminocyclopyrachlor; FMC's fungicide flutriafol and insecticide bifenthrin; Ishihara Sangyo Kaisha's fungicide isofetamid; Nufarm's herbicide pyraflufen-ethyl; and Sumitomo Chemical's fungicide ethaboxam and insecticide momfluorothrin.

The PMRA completed 2,565 submissions in fiscal 2015 compared with 2,781 in fiscal 2014 and 3,611 in fiscal 2013. As of 31 March 2015, 14 new active ingredients were under joint review, including 5 conventional chemicals under global joint review. The PMRA made 106 regulatory decisions resulting in the registration of 621 new minor uses of which 13 were joint reviews or workshares.

In 2014–2015, the PMRA approved 34, including 22 technical or manufacturing products and 12 end-use products. Some examples of generic active ingredients registered for agricultural use include, chlormequat chloride, chlorpropham, diquat, mancozeb, and quinclorac. PMRA granted 14 emergency registrations.
 
During fiscal year 2014–2015, the agency completed 11 re-evaluations and 3 special reviews. Consultations on 6 proposed re-evaluation decisions and 3 proposed special review decisions were conducted during this fiscal year. In addition,  the PMRA initiated 10 re-evaluations and 3 special reviews.
