The U.S. EPA has decided to extend the expiration date of temporary tolerance exemption for VNT1 protein in or on potatoes when used as a plant-incorporated protectant to April 1, 2017.
On 23 February 2015, the Agency has established a temporary exemption at the request from J.R. Simplot Company of a tolerance for residues of Potato Late Blight Resistance protein VNT1 in or on potato with an expiration date of December 31, 2015.
The gene that confers Potato Late Blight Resistance (Rpi-vnt1) is found naturally in wild potato varieties. When Rpi-vnt1 is expressed in potato, the VNT1 protein it encodes confers broad-spectrum resistance to Phytophthora infestans, late blight of potato.
