The Brazilian minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Kátia Abreu, changed her mind about creating a new agency to manage the registration of crop protection products. She decided to support the new management of the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and to prioritize the increase of personnel within the agency.
However, the goal is still to streamlining the process of analysis and release of agrochemicals. For this reason, Abreu affirms that, if Anvisa "resists to become efficient", the Ministry will seek other options to speed up registration.
"In the past, we have had one plague for each five years, today there are three new plagues per year. We cannot have one entity that is ideologically prone not to release agrochemicals through bureaucracy. I see a light in the end of the tunnel and I think that Anvisa is open for this modernization. It seems that things at Anvisa, after the change of the president and two directors, are taking another path. We want to support Anvisa," explained the minister.
The statements were done during a press conference last week, during the launch of the Surveillance Program of Agriculture Defense on Border Areas.
