The U.S. EPA has amends the existing tolerance exemption for Bio-ferm GmbH’s Aureobasidium pullulans strains DSM 14940 and DSM 14941 to cover all food commodities when used in accordance with label directions and good agricultural practices.
The former tolerance exemption established for these products is suitable for food commodities when applied pre-harvest. Bio-ferm submitted a petition to EPA to seek expanding the current exemption to also include food commodities that are treated post-harvest. Therefore an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance for residues of Aureobasidium pullulans strains DSM 14940 and DSM 14941 in or on all food commodities was proposed.
After evaluation, EPA concluded that there is a reasonable certainty that no harm will result to the U.S. population, including infants and children, from aggregate exposure to residues of Aureobasidium pullulans strains DSM 14940 and DSM 14941. This amendment eliminates the need to establish a maximum permissible level for residues of these products under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
