The European Commission has approved three new active ingredients under the EU plant protection regulation (1107/2009). They are: Bayer CropScience's insecticide ,flupyradifurone, Sumitomo Chemical’s fungicide, mandestrobin, and Syngenta’s plant growth regulator, flumetralin. The flupyradifurone and mandestrobin will be formally included in Annex I on Dec 9, 2015 and will expire on Dec 9, 2025, and flumetralin will be formally included in Annex I on Dec 11, 2015 and will expire on Dec 11, 2022.
For flupyradifurone, the Commission requires that member states shall pay particular attention to the protection of workers and operators; the risk to non-target arthropods, aquatic invertebrates and small herbivorous mammals; the protection of groundwater, when the substance is applied in regions with vulnerable soil and/or climatic conditions; residues in animal matrices and rotational crops.
For mandestrobin, EU member states are required to pay particular attention to the risk to aquatic organisms; the protection of groundwater, when the substance is applied in regions with vulnerable soil and/or climatic conditions.
For flumetralin, the Commission requires that member states shall pay particular attention to the protection of operators and workers, ensuring that conditions of use include the application of adequate personal protective equipment, where appropriate; the protection of groundwater, when the substance is applied in regions with vulnerable soil and/or climatic conditions; the risk to herbivorous mammals; the risk to aquatic organisms.
