H.J. Baker recently signed onto an open letter to the fertilizer industry endorsing ResponsibleAg’s mission and calling on others to voluntarily participate. ResponsibleAg promotes the safe storage and handling of fertilizers as well as audits facilities to help them achieve and maintain compliance with federal environmental, health, safety and security laws and regulations.
In the letter H.J. Baker CEO Christopher Smith signed, it stated: “the public expects all members of the plant nutrient chain to take the steps reasonably necessary to help assure that the products they produce and distribute are handled and stored in accordance with Federal rules and regulations. As such, we explicitly endorse the ReposnsibleAg program created under the leadership of both the Agriculture Retailers Association and The Fertilizer Institute.”
In addition to calling on the industry to participate, all of H.J. Baker’s Tiger-Sul Products facilities have been certified as meeting or exceeding all federal laws and regulations as audited by ResponsibleAg. Tiger-Sul Products has facilities in Stockton, California and Atmore Alabama as well as in Irricana, Alberta Canada.
Steve Azzarello, EVP of Marketing at H.J. Baker commented: “I believe H.J. Baker’s Tiger-Sul Products is a leading example of type of responsible agriculture The Fertilizer Institute and Agriculture Retailers Association are seeking for our industry. Not only are we compliant with ResponsibleAg, we also adhere to the 4R’s. We safely manufacture an essential crop nutrient from what is primarily a petroleum waste stream and using our technology produce a non-leachable, slow release, long lasting product that benefits the agriculture industry. It is the Right Product, Right Place, Right Dose at the Right Time – the 4R’s.”
