BASF has opened a representative office in Yangon, Myanmar, according to a media release from the company on 21 September.

Located at the Sedona Hotel building along Kabar Aye Pagoda Road, BASF’s first office in Myanmar has been established to support its growing base of local customers and cater to an increasing demand for high quality and sustainable chemical products and solutions in the country as it develops, the media release said.

BASF aims to support Myanmar in managing the challenges associated with rapid development and urbanization. “Many of Myanmar’s most promising industries depend on chemistry to realize their full potential. BASF offers solutions that can help produce better yields in agriculture, affordable higher-quality buildings, clean water and better nutrition, and more sustainable manufacturing and mining. With a representative office in Myanmar, we can support our customers directly as they expand and develop their businesses,” said Mr. Boonchai Opas-iam-likit, Group Managing Director of Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, BASF.

Through distributors, BASF has been offering solutions to Myanmar customers for the past five years, including vitamins for food fortification, concrete admixtures, crop protection ingredients such as herbicides and pesticides, mining chemicals, and water purification chemicals. The establishment of its representative office in Yangon marks BASF’s first direct presence in Myanmar.
