Atanor Do Brazil Ltda., the local subsidiary of Albaugh, LLC in Brazil, has signed an agreement with FMC Corporation to acquire Consagro Agroquimica Ltda., the post-patent crop protection subsidiary of FMC Corporation in Brazil. Terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.
Brazil is the largest market for crop protection products in the world with strong market growth achieved over the last several years. Albaugh has been active in the local market for several years and operates a manufacturing plant in Resende. The current business is based on a range of herbicides, including glyphosate and 2,4-D, and copper fungicides. The addition of Consagro will substantially strengthen that product range with a complementary portfolio of fungicides and insecticides.
“We have identified Brazil as a key growth market for us in the future,” said Kurt Pedersen Kaalund, Group CEO of Albaugh LLC. “We enjoy a good business in Brazil today based on a limited portfolio, and a number of new products are in development with planned introductions in the next few years. The addition of a very interesting range of products from Consagro will allow us to speed up our growth in Brazil considerably.” The portfolio of products and new product registrations from Consagro will be integrated with the current business in Brazil as soon as possible after closing. Closing is subject to approval from regulatory authorities in Brazil.
"The sale of Consagro is part of our broad strategy to focus on our portfolio of valued-added products, especially with the addition of the Cheminova product line in Brazil," said Mark Douglas, president, FMC Agricultural Solutions. "Consagro is an ideal fit for Albaugh, which is known as a premier supplier of post-patent agrochemical products."
Albaugh is headquartered in Ankeny, Iowa and is an established supplier of post-patent crop protection products to customers around the world with manufacturing facilities in United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Europe.
