Brazil: Promip announces acquisition of Insecta Biological Agents‏

Promip announced recently the acquisition of Insecta Biological Agents in Brazil. The incorporation of this new business is part of the growth strategy of the company, which has its foundation on the development of innovative and sustainable solutions of integrated plague management.

Being one of the major companies at the Integrated Plague Management segment, Promip was a pioneer on the production and sales of biological products containing predatory mites in Brazil.

"The acquisition of Insecta will strengthen our portfolio of biological products, which will enable Promip to compose technological packages for the integrated management on several crops," analyzes Marcelo Poletti, CEO and co-founder.

Insecta is a tech-based company which had its origins associated with the Federal University of Lavras and since 2006 has dedicated itself to enhance input production for the fabrication of Trichogramma pretiosum and Trichogramma galloi waspas. These insects are used for biological control of diverse plagues such as the Armyworm, the Soybean Looper, the Corn earworm, tomato leafminer, sugarcane Berryr Borer, among others.

Following a worldwide trend, the use of biological products associated with other strategies for pest control has been a practice increasingly adopted by Brazilian farmers. While in Brazil, the use of wasps have been prominent mainly in the culture of sugarcane for the biological control of the drill, in recent years its use has expanded to other major crops such as soybeans and corn, aimed at management Helicoverpa armigera and other pests.
