Mexico has collect 3,100 tons of containers of agrochemicals that were used in agriculture through the national program known as Conserve a Field Clean System, the country's National Service of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries, and Food (SAGARPA) informed. The government agency also revealed at a statement that it has worked in partnership with local producers to increase those numbers in order to bring more financial and economic sustainability for the productive chains.
This is the third year with continuous increases of collection. In 2013, the country collected 2,500 tons of agrochemical containers. In 2012 the figure was 2,528 tons. The goal of SAGARPA for 2015 is to recollect 3,300 tons in all of Mexico's territory.
With state and federal resources, an investment of 21 million Mexican Pesos (US$ 1.3 million) were used to equip and reactivate 66 temporary collection centers(CAT), and 959 centers of pesticides empty containers collection (CREVP). At the centers, there is also a workshop of training for good management and use agrochemicals.
The containers collected are recycled, which generate an integral value chain on the use, collection, transportation and disposal of empty pesticide containers in the agricultural areas of the country. It also favor for self-sufficiency program for financial benefits.
