India CIBRC 354th meeting approved 39 pesticide technical registrations

The Indian Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIBRC) approved the registrations of 39 pesticide technicals at the meeting of the Registration Committee on March 31, 2015, including 24 insecticides, 7 herbicides, 7 fungicides and 1 acaricide.  For registration type, 9 products are the 9 (3) registrations (2 for export purpose), the other 30 product registrations belong to the 9 (4) - "Me-Too” registration.

For company, BEST CROP SCIENCE and Cheminova India received the most product registrations with 5 products respectively.

Regarding product, the most approved products include thiamethoxam, lambda-cyhalothrin, fipronil and dichlorvos with 3 products respectively .

Although EU has begun the restrictions on the use of insecticides thiamethoxam and fipronil since December, 2013, due to concerns over possible risks to honeybees,  they are still very popular in other countries for special and wide uses. A new study found that use of neonicotinoid insecticides such as thiamethoxam, clothianidin, imidacloprid increased dramatically in the mid-2000s and was driven almost entirely by the use of corn and soybean seeds treated with the pesticides.
