Nufarm Agriculture Inc. is now the exclusive Canadian distributor of Velocity SP Herbicide of Valent U.S.A. Corporation, and the product is used on golf courses and sod farms to reduce annual bluegrass stands, and suppress dandelions, white clover and dollar spot in turf.
Velocity SP (bispyribac-sodium) is a Group 2 post-emergent herbicide that provides golf course superintendents and sod producers the only option in Canada for effectively removing annual bluegrass (Poa annua) from turf. Velocity selectively reduces the presence of Poa annua with certain species of turf, including creeping bentgrass, perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue.
“Velocity is a very unique management tool for the Canadian turf industry and Nufarm is very happy to add it to our arsenal of turf solutions,” says Sabrina Bladon, Eastern Marketing Manager for Nufarm Agriculture Inc. “Golf superintendents and sod farmers are very familiar with the problems annual bluegrass causes on turf, and Velocity is the only product available for effective control.”
Used in a programmed approach, Velocity can be applied to established turf to gradually transition Poa annua from the turf species. The severity of infestation, along with desired level and speed of control, determine the most appropriate control program. Annual bluegrass usually stops growing within 3 to 7 days of treatment, and turns yellow or brown within 7 to 14 days after treatment.
Velocity SP is registered for use on golf courses and sod farms in Canada, and was previously marketed exclusively in Canada through Engage Agro.
Nufarm also markets Tourney® Fungicide, Arena® 50 WG Insecticide and Trillion® Turf Herbicide for the Canadian turf market.
