Bayer CropScience has appointed Garth Hodges as vice-president of marketing and business development for its Canadian business, effective April 1, 2015.
Hodges, most recently held the position of Global Head of Bayer CropScience’s Business Development & Licensing Department responsible for M&A, licensing, investments and divestments based in Monheim, Germany. He now replaces Al Driver, who was recently appointed as the new President and CEO of Bayer CropScience Inc. effective January 1, 2015.
“Garth brings a tremendous wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Canadian team,” said Driver. “Having held several positions throughout his career with Bayer and its parent companies spanning three decades, he has a solid understanding of the complexities of modern agriculture.”
Hodges previously led the global Oilseeds and Wheat Seeds & Traits business, based in Calgary, from 2002 to 2011.
Born and raised in the Cape Province of South Africa, Hodges received a Masters of Science degree in Agriculture at the University of Stellenbosch and spent 12 years in various disciplines of Agriculture from field research and development. Technical support, marketing and regional manager for AgrEvo crop protection.
Garth and his family left South Africa in 1998 to pursue a role with licensing and developing biotechnology traits, based out of Frankfurt, Germany. With the formation of Aventis CropScience, he moved with the headquarters to Lyon, France in 2000. There, Garth was responsible for global licensing of biotechnology traits.
