Russian company Metaprocess intends to open a nitrogen fertilizers factory in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul with investments projected at over US$ 1 billion. The announcement was made by Tereza Cristina Corrêa da Costa Dias, an official of the state's Production and Family Farms Department.
"We firstly will supply a little bit more of fertilizers for Brazil and then we will start to produce inside the country," confirmed the president of the Brazil-Russia Business Chamber, Sergey Vasilyev. Resources will come from the Russia government and can possibly be supported by Brazil's National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES).
"The talks with the Russian company are advanced and there are economic viability studies ongoing. But the big discussion at the moment is the price of the gas to be consumed at the unit," explained Dias. According to her, this gas would be imported from Bolivia through the Brazil-Bolivia gas pipeline.
"Nearly 30 million cubic meters of gas pass through the pipeline per day. Two million cubic meters of the gas are going to the new factory and two million for the new fertilizers unit of Petrobras. There is a lot of raw material left for new investments in the sector and within the region," revealed ereza Cristina Corrêa da Costa Dias.
