Dow Agrosciences Brazilian company has received a permission from the Brazilian government that allows the company to work with the technology Intacta RR2 PRO®. The agreement for the license was already signed by Monsanto, the patent owner, and was released by the anti-trust agency, the Administrative Council of Economic Defense (Cade).
The Brazilian unit of Monsanto did not grant the license exclusively to Dow Agrosciences, but allowed the partner to test, develop, commercialize, and produce soybean varieties containing the Intacta RR2 PRO® technology. The new transgenic technology brings tolerance to glyphosate as well as resistance to insects.
According to Monsanto, RR2 PRO® presents "excellent protection against the major caterpillar on soybean crops: the velvetbean moth (Anticarsia gemmatalis), the Soybean Looper (Chrysodeixis includens), the budworm (Heliothis virescens), and the Crocidosema, besides suppressing the Lesser Cornstalk Borer (Elasmopalpus lignosellus) and the corn earworm (Helicoverpa armigera).
Brazil's anti-trust agency, Cade, approved the deal without restrictions. Previously, Monsanto had allowed the use of the Intacta RR2 PRO® in Brazil for the following companies: Coodetec (Cooperativa Central de Pesquisa Agrícola Ltda.), Don Mario Sementes Ltda., Nidera Sementes Ltda. and Syngenta Proteção de Cultivo Ltda.
