The Indian government will announce Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for major crops in May, to make farmers decide on crops more easily. Earlier this used to be done in August after all the sowing was over, but this will be done in May itself from this year onwards- Gujarat state agriculture minister Mohan Kundaria announced in a seminar organized at Junagarh Agriculture University at Rajkot. This will help farmers to decide on crops to be taken earlier, which are normally sown in mid May. This will help farmers to calculate their economics on different crops, without any doubts and dilemma.
Additionally, MSP for Rabi crops will be announced in August itself, which was earlier used to be done in December/ January. This is seen to be welcome step in Indian Agriculture history, which is now also more or less conventional in its approach and will help to induce more planning in this sector.
